Profile
KasuriHome, a North Carolina-based company founded by artist and designer Catalina Arocena, produces a line of home and fashion accessories made from vintage Japanese textiles. Each one-of-a-kind piece is designed and carefully crafted in the United States under Arocena’s direct supervision.
Japan is known throughout the world for its remarkable textiles, particularly for lavish and ornate ceremonial silk kimono with traditional motifs. Vintage kimono from the first half of the 20th century, however, are lesser known in the West and are the primary source of KasuriHome’s textiles. Country cottons such as kasuri have a unique beauty despite their humble use in rural settings, while other favored kimono are made from very sturdy silks such as meisen and omeshi, which often feature bold, contemporary designs reflecting their use by sophisticated urban women.
